Getting home is not a premium feature
Most paddling accidents are quiet ones: an offshore breeze, water colder than the air, a delay nobody knew to worry about. Splashtag's safety features exist for those days — and they are free for every user, forever, in writing.
At launch, choose a contact and an ETA. If you have not checked in 15 minutes past it, they get an email and push with your live link and last known position. When you land, they hear you are back safely.
A private link that shows your position on the water while you paddle. It expires within 24 hours and shows an honest "last seen" timestamp when you are out of coverage — never a false sense of live.
Wind blowing away from your launch shore is the silent one — effortless out, brutal back. When it exceeds 10 knots we say so, plainly, before you start.
Below 60°F water, immersion is the emergency. You will see the water temperature with plain guidance — dress for the water, wear the leash, tell someone.
- You start a trip and toggle the float plan: pick a contact, set an ETA.
- While you paddle, your phone shares position whenever it has any signal.
- You land and tap “I'm back” — your contact gets the good news.
- If your ETA passes with no check-in, your contact gets your live link, your last position, and when we last heard from your phone. Honestly timestamped, never embellished.
Alerts go by push and email. Live share needs some phone coverage; where there is none, the link says so plainly. Splashtag supplements — never replaces — a PFD, a leash, and good judgment.
Why free?
A safety feature behind a paywall protects the people who need it least. The costs are small — a shared link, a scheduled check, an email — and the trust it builds is worth more to us than the revenue. This promise is written into our product principles and versioned in our public plan; changing it would be a breaking change to who we are.
